“The psycho-social intervention in maxi-emergency situations:
Comparing European realities”
AULA MAGNA OSPEDALE C. FORLANINI
P.zza C. FORLANINI, 1 - 00151 Rome
In present times, maxi-emergencies have become a topic to be seriously taken into consideration. It becomes necessary to pay attention to the psychological difficulties that may arise both in the population that undergoes the catastrophic event, and in the rescue teams.
Such difficulties may appear in the acute phase or evolve in a less evident manner, and have repercussions in the long term. Therefore, psychological assistance to victims and relatives must be granted just as medical care is.
The European IPPHEC Project (Improve the Preparedness to give Psychological Help in Event of Crisis) looks at crisis events from this perspective, paying more attention to the effects that might not be as evident. It aims at giving immediate psychological help to the victims, in particular where there is a stronger taking on of the physical aspects: the hospital.
